Groom's cake
This was made as a surprise for my new nephew-in-law. The wedding was yesterday. He plays guitar, so it was decided that we would carve the cake into the shape of an electric guitar. In the top left corner are the words to one of their favorite songs. It says, "Here we go...life's waiting to begin..." I thought it was very appropriate for a wedding. On the bottom right corner are the tabs to the song. He doesn't actually read music, but he does read tabs, so that's what my niece decided she wanted on there. Then we finished it up with music notes in various places around the board. He loved it!

We did this cake for my (Teresa's) daughter's lingerie shower they gave her at work. It was actually the easiest cake I've ever done. It was made in a sheet cake pan and two small pyrex pans. I used buttercream frosting for the cake, the roses and white ruffled lace are made with fondant and the black lace designs were done with gel glitter frosting in a tube.

Erica's Bridal Shower cake
This is the bridal shower cake I made for my niece this past weekend. It was made to look like the cake on the plates. I used butter cream colored pink for the base color. The blue and brown around the bottom of the layers is ribbon. I piped white buttercream dots around the cake layers to look like draping pearls, and topped it with a double heart cake topper. I was quite disappointed in this cake upon delivery. When it was finished the night before, it was adorable! Once I got it to the location of the shower & unboxed it, I found that the cake had slid off the cake board and the buttercream was soaking through the blue ribbon. I had to finish sliding the cake off the board and onto a glass stand using a cake server. That coupled with the fact that the buttercream was soaking through the ribbon made it look terrible, in my opinion. She loved it though, so I guess that's what counts.
Justin's 7th b-day cake
This is what Justin wanted on his cake. It's a prehistoric creature called a Mosasaur. Yeah, I had no clue what it was either. I had to google it. lol He saw it on a show on Discovery, I guess. He picked the colors. Instead of spreading the buttercream smooth, I decided to spike it up (as you would with meringue on a pie) to represent water. Justin insisted on the white sugar sprinkles.

A few out of order...
This first one is from my son's 9th birthday this past summer. He wanted a volcano cake, so I layered & carved the cake the best I could to get a "volcano" look. The top layer was made in a bundt pan so that I would have a hole for the smoke. The smoke is actually dry ice in a votive cup with some water added to make it smoke. It was a neat effect. We had his party at the lake, so it was pretty hot & the cake actually started to slide. lol Oh well....
This next cake is one that my sister & I did together. It was for her daughter's surprise sweet 16 party. All the circles & stripes are cut from fondant.
"Candyland"
Ok, this was the funnest cake to do...ever! I loved it! My sister & I worked on it together. We make a really great team because there are things that I love to do that she doesn't particularly enjoy, and vice versa. This cake was done for a little girl's 3rd birthday this past weekend. It's based on the board game "Candyland." Everything on it is edible. The path for the game is made from a type of gum that is similar to Chicklets. All of the signs are made from fondant & the writing is in edible marker. The Gingerbread Tree is made from a gingerbread man cookie. On the lower right side, we have candy canes for Peppermint Forest. We also added some white sugar crystals to give the look of snow. Then we have some purple twizzlers for the Licorice Forest, Sugar Babies for Peanut Acres, and gumdrops for Gumdrop Mountain & Gumdrop Pass. In the upper left corner, we have Chocolate Swamp. It's made of melted chocolate chips with some chocolate chips dotted in and around it. In the "puddle" is Gloopy (a Hershey's Kiss). In the upper right corner we have swirly lollipops for Lollipop Woods. At the end of the path, we sprinkled some multi-colored circle shaped sprinkles. Finally at the end of the "game" we have a cupcake castle with peppermint sticks surrounding it. Oh, and around the sides of the cake we cut large gumdrops in half & bordered the cake with them, adding a gingerbread man to each corner. All in all, I think it's an absolutely adorable cake!
"baby bum" baby shower cake 2009
This was a really fun cake to do. My sister & I worked on it together. It was for a surprise baby shower for my niece. The base cake is just covered in buttercream & a some fondant circles & ribbon/bow around it for a border. The baby bum is cake that was baked in a pyrex bowl & covered with white fondant for a diaper. The legs & feet are molded Rice Krispies treats covered with fondant. The toes are fondant balls. The pink blanket is just a sheet of rolled fondant. I think it turned out adorable!

Practice cake for a baby shower
What you see in this picture is my "practice run" on an up-turned cake pan. lol As I was getting ready to do the actual cake, my oldest son was admitted to the hospital for Type I (Juvenile) Diabetes. We were there for 3 days, therefore being unable to do the cake. But I really like the practice run, so I'm including this picture. lol I think the real cake would have been absolutely adorable!
